Day 8: Drink and Drug Driving – Keep Our Roads Safe This Christmas

πŸš—πŸŽ„ The Festive season is a time for celebration, but getting behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs can have devastating consequences. Here’s how to make the right choices and stay safe:

  • Never drink and drive – Even small amounts of alcohol can affect your judgment and reaction times.
  • Plan ahead – Arrange a taxi, use public transport, or designate a sober driver before you head out.
  • Beware of the morning after – Alcohol and drugs can stay in your system longer than you think. You could still be over the limit the next day.
  • Know the risks – Driving under the influence increases your risk of causing an accident, endangering lives, and facing serious penalties, including a criminal record, or imprisonment.
  • Think about others – Don’t let friends or family drive if you suspect they are under the influence. Help them find a safe way home.
  • Spot the signs – If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, report them immediately to the Police.
  • As part of our Christmas Drink Drive Campaign, North Yorkshire Police are regularly carrying out roadside checks. Don’t drive whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol! Its not worth the risk.

Let’s make this a safe and joyful Christmas for everyone. Stay sober behind the wheel and help keep our roads safe.
