Last night, just before midnight, PC 589 Wilkinson from your Richmond Neighbourhood Policing Team was on patrol in the Melsonby area when he sighted a suspicious looking van driving into the village.

As PC Wilkinson has gotten behind the van it has made attempts to evade him, accelerating away and making a sharp turn up a side road before going lights out on a cul-de-sac. However, it was unsuccessful in its attempt to get away and the van was swiftly located.

Following relevant checks, it soon transpired that the driver of this vehicle not only had no licence or insurance but was also wanted for Immigration offences.

The driver was arrested and transported to Harrogate Custody where he will remain in the cells to be dealt with by Border Force for the immigration offences.

The van was seized, with that being yet another illegal vehicle and driver taken off the roads of Richmondshire by your Neighbourhood Policing Team.
