Family safety week - day 1

This week is Family safety week, each day we are sending you advice to help keep you and your family safe.

Today’s focus is: Pedestrian safety

Roadwise

Always walk on a footpath where possible, if no footpath but the verge is safe and wide enough walk on the verge.

If you need to walk on a road walk towards oncoming vehicles so you can see them and they can see you!

Always use a pedestrian crossing if there is one nearby.

If there is no crossing always cross where you can see cars and they can see you!

To be safe on the road you need to use the Green Cross Code.

  • Think
  • Stop
  • Look and listen
  • Wait
  • Look and listen again
  • Arrive alive
  • Always walk straight across the road, DO NOT walk diagonally.
NEVER run across the road because you might fall over and you might not get up in time.

Around school drop off and pick up times the area is very busy. Please take extra care and ensure you park safely and legally:

Zig Zag markings and double yellow lines are there to keep children safe. They provide safe road crossing areas for children accessing or leaving school, ensuring that there is a substantial clear view at all times.

It is an offence as per Section 36(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 to park on zig zag markings in the vicinity of a school and you may be issued a fixed penalty notice if you fail to comply with traffic signs/ road markings.

Parking Outside of Selly Park Girls' School

It is important to remember that a vehicle colliding with a child could be catastrophic. Parking inconsiderately can endanger other road users, especially pedestrians.

Please think before you park and ensure you are parked legally and considerately.

Please be part of the solution not the problem.
