Reports of Cold Callers |
||
|
We have recently received and responded to reports of individuals going door‑to‑door in Bedale and the surrounding villages, attempting to sell household or cleaning products from a bag. These individuals often claim to be ex‑offenders participating in rehabilitation or probation schemes. This information is not accurate and is frequently used to gain sympathy and encourage a sale. In some cases, cold callers may become pushy or abusive when refused. Many of these individuals do not carry any identification. Those who do may present a card designed to resemble an official pedlar’s certificate; however, in most cases, these are not genuine.
Our advice to anyone receiving an unexpected doorstep caller:
Sadly, older and vulnerable residents are frequently targeted due to their trusting nature. Please take the time to remind family, friends and neighbours—particularly those who are elderly or vulnerable—not to open the door to unexpected callers or engage in doorstep sales. Some callers may offer poor‑quality goods at inflated prices, and if they are not genuine, they may be gathering information for future criminal activity.
If you have someone cold calling at your home that you feel are suspicious, please report it to the police on 101 or 999 if an emergency Thank you for taking the time to read this.
